(Scroll down for English) За пару днів (Scroll down for English)

In a couple of days I have to finish the work and submit it to the exhibition. I don't remember any painting being so difficult for me to work on. Well, this is self-explanatory. Before proceeding to the details, I cannot decide on one thing. I have a question for you, should I make wounds on the face, or finish it this way?
PS In the end, it will be clear that it is cotton that is burning on her hand, and not something shapeless.
Pp.s. Ulyana, the girl from who became my inspiration for this painting, lives in Bucha. She survived.

I painted this still life being inspired by a rece I painted this still life being inspired by a recently-introduced meme about the current russo-Ukrainian war (2014-current).
Бавовна /bavóvna/ is Ukrainian for cotton. The meme was born because of newspeak of Russian propaganda. Throughout recent years, russian propaganda uses various euphemisms and newspeak to diminish the importance of catastrophic events in its controlled territories: terms like “newly available manpower” for “rise in unemployment”, “water-soaking” for “flood”, “a negative rise of the economic growth” for “economic decline”, etc. The one of the most used terms is хлопо́к (/xlopók/ - clap, pop) for “explosion”.
Ukrainians twist the pronunciation by shifting the stress from the first syllable to the second thus changing the meaning from “clap, pop” to “cotton”. This way every explosion on russian territory is called “cotton” by Ukrainian internet community. Ukrainians lovingly refer to these accidents as “little cotton” or bavovniatko (бавовнятко). Rich texture is something I always loved and someh Rich texture is something I always loved and somehow wasn’t doing much of it lately. So in 2023 I promised myself to go back to my experiments with texture, tap deeper into my emotions, and to make paintings that are visually exciting. I’ve been trying to depict the beauty around me. I painted outdoors, took tons of fotos. And then something changed inside of me and I couldn’t make another piece. Maybe it’s because of war in my beloved Ukraine, and all the tears. Maybe it’s just because I needed to move on from a style that wasn’t my own… anyhow, this is where I am and I’m glad I started new year with a new (and also old forgotten) style.
